September 11, 2008: Students should have finished reading their Newbery Books and should now be working on projects (as well as the response sheet) for their literature responses. Students signed up for a time they wanted to go earlier this week; these times are posted below.

Please make sure to check your child’s grades periodically online. I give them a printout of missing assignments once (sometimes twice) a week. They also check their missing assignments here at school so know exactly what they are missing. If your child is still missing an excess of assignments, we will need to have an SEP conference to set goals and problem-solve how to fix this.

School photos are to be taken on Friday of next week. Your child should have bought home a flier about it yesterday.

September 11, 2008: This week we’ve been working on comma usage in everyday writing. We have just completed the 12th comma rule, and will be reviewing these throughout the school year.

There is no school tomorrow so that the teachers can correct students’ writing assessments. Also, don’t forget that the school skating party is tomorrow night from 5:00-8:00. Information about the event is on the class calendar.

Students should be reading their Newbery Books and starting on projects for their literature responses. Students will sign up next week for times on the 22nd through the 26th and are expected to be ready on the day they sign up for.

Information found on this form, as well as other announcements, will be updated periodically on the class website located on the school server (www.amelia.provo.edu). Be sure to go to our fifth grade classroom page. Other links and student resources will not be made available here, but will still be on www.classroomofchaos.com.

Have a great three day weekend!

August 29, 2008: Remember that there is no school on Monday due to Labor Day and we will have early out next week in order for Parent Teacher Conferences. For these conferences I ask that your child attend with you so that we may set goals for the ensuing year. If you still have not signed up for an SEP conference time, please feel free to email or call me at the school to get that arranged. A schedule of times is available here:

If you still need to sign up for a time, please call or email me about one of the "unshaded" time slots.

Yesterday we attended the Mt. Timp. Storytelling Festival up in Provo Canyon. I wanted to just offer up a quick thank-you to those parents who drove (and those of you willing to drive). The students (and parents) had a great time. If you haven’t ever gone to the festival before, it will run for the next two days and I highly recommend taking time out of your schedule to attend.

Today students learned to check their grades online. Please have them show you how to do this so that you may keep track of how well they’re doing throughout the year. Math grades should hopefully be online by next week.

Students also got their "High Fliers" club information. Each calendar is due at the end of the month. Have a great 3-day weekend!
